The Plastic Problem: Convenience at an Environmental Cost
In the fragrance and aroma industry, packaging plays a key role yet it is also a major contributor to waste, particularly single-use plastic bottles that are difficult to decompose and often pollute land, water, and marine ecosystems.
Studies show that packaging from personal care and cosmetic products has an extremely low recycling rate, especially in markets focused on convenience and low prices. This makes it a key driver of unsustainable production.
At Scent And Sense, we refuse to conform to outdated systems. Instead, we have chosen to rethink our entire design process ensuring that fragrance never comes at the expense of environmental harm.
New Solutions: Packaging Designed for the Planet
We’ve developed eco-conscious packaging systems, aimed at reducing plastic waste through key initiatives:
Refillable Packaging – Designing containers that can be refilled at in-store or event-based refill stations.
Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) Plastics – Using recycled plastics for packaging where plastic use remains necessary.
Biodegradable & Natural Materials – Including paper-based diffusers, paper tubes, and plant-based packaging that naturally decomposes.
This approach not only minimizes waste but also encourages customers to feel empowered by choosing products that align with environmental values.
From Behavior to Culture: Promoting Refills
Changing consumer behavior is central to success. We launched the "Refill & Respect" campaign, encouraging customers to bring back their fragrance bottles to refill at partnered outlets receiving discounts and perks in return.
We’ve also hosted “Refill Pop-Up” events in malls and eco-markets, giving customers hands-on experience with sustainable fragrance consumption especially popular among eco-conscious younger generations.
