Social Enterprise Scent and Sense and the Mission to End Poverty

“We don’t just sell fragrance—we create opportunities for lives to flourish.”

Today’s business world is transitioning into a new era—one where social and environmental responsibility is at the heart of sustainable operations.

At Scent and Sense Laboratory Co.,Ltd., we don’t see fragrance as just a product that delivers relaxation or aesthetic pleasure. We believe that scent is a powerful tool—one that can ignite lives, create opportunities, and uplift communities, especially when combined with the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations as a roadmap for a better world.

Goal 1: No Poverty is the very first SDG and highlights one of the greatest challenges of humanity poverty. And poverty isn’t just about lacking money. It also means lacking opportunity, access to education and basic services, and the ability to make empowered decisions in one’s own life.

As a private sector business born and growing in Thailand, we recognize that poverty still exists in many areas, especially among grassroots communities. Despite increasing national GDP, income and opportunity gaps remain wide.

Scent and Sense Believes in “Shared Growth through Shared Value”

1. We believe everyone deserves economic opportunity. We support people, especially those from vulnerable or underserved communities, to gain access to sustainable incomes and meaningful employment. We don’t view them as recipients of aid, but as co-creators within our value chain.

2. We value local communities and Thai craftsmanship. Thailand is rich in natural herbs, local ingredients, and traditional wisdom. That’s why we focus on sourcing from within the country and help communities enhance their skills to generate stable income from their own resources.

3. We believe in the “Shared Value” business model. Instead of focusing solely on business profits, we build a system where all parties—our company, local communities, small producers, and customers grow together, through a model of mutual benefit, not sacrifice.

We don’t treat communities as mere suppliers. We treat them as business partners with whom we co-invest and develop together.

Some of our real-world initiatives include:

  • Purchasing herbs from northern Thai farmers at a price above market value to ensure fair compensation.

  • Conducting hands-on training to help villagers learn processing techniques and maintain ingredient quality.

  • Establishing local community enterprises in remote areas, enabling them to produce raw materials or basic products under the Scent and Sense standard.

These efforts have led to tangible outcomes narrowing opportunity gaps that once limited communities. People now enjoy greater income stability and feel they are part of our brand’s success, not just contributors behind the scenes.

Scent may be invisible to the eye, but it is deeply felt by the heart. And at Scent and Sense, our scent represents equality, shared growth, and security in life.

This is the beginning of a long journey we hope to walk alongside all parts of society through every drop of perfume, every handmade candle, and every natural product you hold in your hand. Because the truest fragrance isn’t only inside the bottle. it is the result of shared opportunity.
