Social inequality does not stem only from income or economic status; it also includes gaps in education, career access, cultural expression, and equal social participation. Scent And Sense Laboratory Co., Ltd. realizes that a modern organization’s duty is not just to create good products, but to act as a "driving force" to open spaces for people from diverse backgrounds to stand on equal ground.
Based on this concept, we developed the “The Scent of Equal Chance” campaign. This initiative opens opportunities for groups often overlooked in society including marginalized youth, ethnic groups, people with physical disabilities, and the LGBTQ+ community to access skills in the fragrance industry and grow in careers where diversity is still lacking.
A Campaign That Creates Both “Scent” and “Opportunity”
The heart of this campaign is providing workshops and vocational training programs for vulnerable groups, using the science of "scent creation" as a tool for skill-building, communication, and storytelling.
Participants learn everything from basic scent analysis to understanding natural raw materials.
They learn to design scents aligned with brand identities and experiment with creating their own perfumes.
This not only builds new skills but offers opportunities to enter competitions or propose actual works for client marketing campaigns.
A recent example involved working with ethnic youth in Northern Thailand who combined local herbal knowledge with modern perfumery, resulting in unique scents that proudly reflect their cultural heritage.
Collaborating for Sustainable Impact
Scent and Sense carries out this campaign alongside a network of partners, including NGOs, universities, vocational centers, and shelters, to ensure fair selection and reach those truly in need.
We provide financial support for travel, workshop equipment, and basic expenses to remove barriers for participants.
Graduates receive certificates and mentorship from business and marketing advisors to help them become future entrepreneurs.
Communicating to Unlock Bias
Beyond workshops, we use Storytelling through scent. We host perfume exhibitions based on the stories of diverse groups, accompanied by video series and online content to encourage society to open its heart to those who are "different". By sharing "scents in memory"—such as the aroma of rain on the soil—we help viewers connect with others on a deep level, free from prejudice.
Scent and Sense believes that "starting small" with purpose can drive real social change. Creating campaigns for equal opportunity doesn't just change the lives of participants; it shifts the attitudes of customers, partners, and everyone involved.
